I always believe that a gift is always a very valuable thing, even if it doesn’t cost much, if we give it with love and warm feelings.
But, sometimes we have to spend a considerable sum to purchase something that is quite extraordinary.
I am planning to give an iPhone to my mother on her birthday, which is coming after 3 months.
My mother is a cook par excellence.
She has raised cooking to an exquisite art form.
She started her YouTube channel in 2018. On this channel she uploads videos of Indian recipes. She also started her Instagram channel in 2019.
My Samsung smartphone has a nice camera. She uses my smartphone to capture high definition videos and images for her YouTube and Instagram profiles.
As I am planning to move abroad, she will need a good smartphone with high quality camera to capture good images.
Recently Apple has launched iPhone 14 pro max. This new model of iPhone is just what every YouTuber or Instagrammer needs.
It has a 135 Mega Pixel camera and many other features that would help my mom capture high quality images and videos.
This phone costs around $1000. Herein lies the problem.
I’m not doing any job right now, and even if I had a job, it would be impossible for me to save up this much money in a very short period of time.
I have one uncle who runs a successful business that spans across India.
I will borrow money from him. Once I’m there in Canada, I will do jobs and pay the money back to him.
I’m sure my mom’s first reaction would be that of anger. Because she won’t like to have a very expensive phone.
But, then her anger will cool down. I will explain the importance of a fine gadget to her.
She will surely understand that this phone will be very helpful to her.
And she will be very proud to have a son like me who cares for her very much.

Part 3
Do you think schools should raise awareness about financial management skills?
In my opinion, money management is an essential skill in this 21st century.
I would call is ‘financial literacy‘ which is quite important thing to learn.
It would be a revolutionary step towards creating a society where people have learned these skills right from their school years.
Do you think children learn these skills from schools or from their parents?
This is indeed a nature v/s nurture question.
In my opinion, children learn this from their parents. They spend their time in their family seeing their parents managing the finances of their household and their business if they own one.
Schools play a vital role in imparting knowledge regarding monetary transactions and business fundamentals.
But, schools have their limits. Whereas, parents have a lifelong influence on their children.
Do you save money? Is there any difference between men and women in terms of spending money?
Yes, I do. I believe in the old maxim that the money saved is the money earned.
My friends consider me thrifty, whereas they all are quite extravagant.
People think that women spend money as if there is no tomorrow, and men are thrifty by nature.
It is a popular misconception. Each individual has his/her own peculiar tendencies, and there can be no generalization based on gender.
